Lunch. Yum or Yuck?
Some of my officemates saw me preparing lunch a few days ago and almost fell of their seats when they saw I was actually preparing salad - herbivore food. They immediately think something is wrong with me, one even putting a hand over my head to check if I had a fever. Another even commented that I must be undergoing through terrible amounts of stress that I’m actually going bonkers and being overly dramatic with the food I take. I just laughed it off. Because really, I’m just starting to look after my physical well-being and all. Best way to start is by looking into the kinds of grub I stuff in my mouth. And hey, preparing a tupperware-full of salad is fun!
Health is Wealth, people. Seriously. Money can’t buy you your life back when you’re bedridden and writhing in pain due to diabetes or liver problems. I tend to stay away from all of that. I’ve had enough relatives who suffered from these health problems and it’s only smart that I learn a thing or two from their experiences. Food nowadays are just full of (glorious) fat and rich with (heavenly) sugar. And I haven’t even started with the street foods full of carcinogens and hepatitis-B. Yes, I sound like a health-conscious party pooper, I know. But hey, I’m not the one with with the fat aorta.
Don’t get me wrong though. I still love liempo, isaw and all that awesome “unhealthy” food selection. I still have copious amounts of lechon from time to time. But I guess the key phrase here is “from time to time”. So if I’m going to do the math (complete with equations and all that *shiver* math symbols), it would appear like this:
[(healthy food x 2) + (unhealthy food x 1)] > (unhealthy food x 2)
Yes, I am a nerd. A lousy one. LOL.
So with that, I leave you be to contemplate on what you’ll have for dinner tonight. Eat your greens, kids.
Hi Cheska! Yep. Moderation is the way. I don’t think I can go full vegetarian in the first place. But yeah, I’m doing what I can to be healthy. Hmm.. It’s been a long time since I last saw you here. I hope you are doing well. : )
Posted by wits at July 22, 2009, 4:44 pmYeah, coming from a family of hypertensives I should fear for my life. In fact, basing on the average lifespan and lifestyle of my family and relatives I should actually prepare my last will and testament. I completely agree with this post.
I agree with you wits. It’s better to start eating healthy now than getting on maintenance medicine later on. It actually costs more to get dependent on those drugs (say for hypertension) than to eat overpriced greens from rustan’s or other stores.
ano na ginagawa mo ngayon?
